Office culture should be on the top of your to-do list for the New Year as an employer. If your company does not have a strong culture, then there will be issues with employees, such as a high turnover rate and poor attitudes. Office culture is immensely important to your company’s bottom line and can mean the difference between having happy employees and ones that fly out the door at the end of the day.

Touch Base Regularly with Employees

An excellent way to improve your company’s culture is to touch base with employees on a regular basis. Whether this is a quick meeting in the cafeteria on Monday morning or sending out a video update, when you touch base, employees know you care. Employees want to know what is happening at the company and how successful it is within the industry. These updates do not have to be too in-depth, but they should provide employees with updates on the successes of the past week.

Surprise Employees

If you really need to fix the culture at your office, consider surprising your employees every now and then. Management can stay late one night and decorate the office for what looks like an employee’s birthday party. Offer food, prizes, videos and games for them to enjoy for a couple of hours on a Friday. This will definitely get them to kick back, relax and bond with co-workers. They will also see that you care about them.

Create a Fun Atmosphere at the Office

Not every company has the money to offer employees massages, free food and other perks on a regular basis at the office. If this is the case for your company, you can still create a fun atmosphere by doing some other things. Give the office walls new colorful paint, hang beautiful artwork, hang inspirational posters and bring in plants. If you have enough money in the budget, consider sprucing up the cafeteria or break room with a pool table or other type of entertainment for employees to enjoy.

Hire Employees Who Fit the Culture

As you begin to repair the culture at your company, make sure you hire the right people who fit the new culture. If you try to change the culture with current employees, but then hire people with poor attitudes, all of your efforts will have been for naught. When you interview potential employees, tell them about your culture and ask for their insights. If they are hesitant about it, or are critical of it, they will not be a good fit with your company.

Culture at your company is important to your bottom line. Make sure it is as strong as possible this year so you can hold onto your employees and recruit only the best for any open jobs.
