It seems as though temporary work is driving the workforce of late and companies are taking note. In fact, companies are finding more success in hiring temporary workers over full-time, permanent workers these days. Across the country, the number of workers with temporary work is at an all-time high right now, and it does not seem to be dipping anytime soon.

Even though temporary work might not be the best thing for those seeking full-time employment, it has become helpful for companies doing the hiring. Many employees want their temporary work to turn into long-time work, but that is not happening right now. Companies, especially those in the manufacturing sector, find it is better to hire temporary workers compared to permanent workers because of the fluctuation in supply and demand.

Despite all of this, temporary jobs help those who are unemployed, even if it is for a short period. Even though the economy seems to be turning itself around, companies are still worried about increasing their permanent workforce. This sentiment is especially true among companies in the manufacturing sector of the country.

Health Care Requirements

Companies with 50 or more full-time workers are now required to provide their employees with access to affordable health care coverage as of 2014 due to the Affordable Care Act. This has led companies to keep their full-time numbers low while using temporary workers when needed.

So many companies are using temporary workers right now because of the high number of people who are unemployed and in desperate need of work. This means that the unemployed are willing to work any type of job, for almost any amount of pay, so companies are taking advantage of this trend.

But, when you look at temporary jobs in manufacturing, only 30 percent of them lead to permanent jobs, according to a survey from Staffing Industry Analysts. This could be due to the high-demand and difficulty of the jobs in the manufacturing sector. Some employees are placed on a 90-day probationary period even though it is a temporary job so the company can determine if he or she is the right fit for the company.

Seasonal Work Counts Too

Seasonal employment is in the same category as temporary work, and with the summer months right around the corner, millions of people will head to their seasonal jobs. Whether this includes teachers, students or those who have been unemployed, seasonal jobs help the economy when they are in-season. Many seasonal jobs, especially summer ones, are difficult to acquire these days due to the high volume of those unemployed across the country. When it comes to the workforce, temporary work is the best way to find a job these days.
